Laurent Courtois (Grenoble) – BIOGRAPHY L.Courtois
Daniel McBrearty was born in Wales, where he learnt clarinet and saxophone. He became interested in jazz as a teenager after discovering Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Ella and Nat Cole in his parents’ record collection, and was soon impressing older musicians with his talent for improvisation.
Now resident in Antwerp, Belgium, he is known as a fluent and melodic improvisor with a deep love for all styles of music, but especially swing and be-bop. Reviewing his CD “Clarinet Swing” in 2012, Scott Yanow called his style “fresh and personal” while George Fendel described his clarinet playing as “dreamy, liquid … pure delight”.
Daniel discovered an immediate musical soulmate in Laurent Courtois at their first meeting in Milan, in France (Swing a l’italienne Tour with Four On Six band by Fausto Savatteri) and is proud and honoured to renew their connection in Sicily this year
